Fake Butteflies

In preparation for our field trip today ~ a butterfly show (pics to come in another post) ~ we read a few butterfly books on Monday and made tissue paper butterflies.

D couldn't believe there are over 20,000 types of butterflies! God's creation is AMAZING! K learned about the life cycle of butterflies. Did you know a caterpillar eats a TON of leaves? But once it's a butterfly it only drinks nectar from flowers through it's straw-like tongue? Pretty cool!

D working hard to cut out the wings...he told me tonight (after seeing/touching butterflies today) that he knew why we used tissue paper to make the butterflies - it tears easily just like the wings of the real butterflies!

K grinning with one of her butterflies...She decided she wanted to make a mobile...so she tied all 4 to thread and then attached it to another pipe cleaner to hang up. Here she is in the dining room with the mobile but it was soon moved to her bedroom where it's proudly displayed.
Learning is so much fun! :o)
