Pizza Hut's Book-It Program

Pizza Hut offers their Book-It program to home educators and I received our packet in the mail on Friday. It was perfect-timing since D finished his 100EL book that day (see pic in post below). The program runs October - March and D receives a certificate for a free pan pizza each month he meets his reading goal.

When I originally signed up for the program a few weeks ago, I downloaded a blank reading list from the website. It has a place for D to write the month and his monthly reading goal, then lots of lines to write the book titles he reads. They give you options of reading goals in books, minutes read, pages read, but I think books read is the best way to count for D.

He already has two on his list...the ones he read on Friday. :o) When we looked at the calendar and counted 22 school days for October, I asked him how many books he should set as his goal. His reply was, "Two a day!" I said, "That's a great goal." But I know some of the books he's going to read will be more like chapter books soon, not all pictures and few words like his books on Friday. So instead of making the goal 44 like D wanted, we made it 21...since that's the most titles we can write on one page anyway. We'll see how it goes this month and then maybe next month his goal will be 44. ;o)

I'm excited for him to continue reading "real" books...
