Monday afternoon D went to Karate again. He told J the other day that he has a problem bowing to the instructor when getting on/off the mats. D went on to say that he isn't to bow to anyone other than the true God. I was so proud of him telling J this! J assured him the bowing for Karate isn't worshiping, it's respect for the instructor in that culture.
On Tuesday we had a field trip with our co-op and toured a whistle factory (D LOVED it). He had one of the only questions at the end of the tour and asked what Presser Machine #5 did. He was really listening! He was especially intrigued by the one machine that someone invented a few years ago to solder the whistle pieces together. I could see his wheels turning in his little engineer/inventor mind of his!
We couldn't take any pictures of the factory (obviously for patent reasons) but we could get this picture by the display board of parts/whistles.
C having a fit - yes, laying flat on the floor screaming & kicking her feet at the end of the whistle factory tour! I had to get a picture...she was not happy she had to be in my arms or guided to stay in between the lines on the floor.
After that factory we drove a few miles to a great park a friend suggested to us. We went with two others families to eat lunch while we were waiting until our candy factory tour at 1 p.m.
At the candy company, the tour was along a 3rd floor fully-enclosed catwalk overlooking the various parts of the factory. Thankfully C had fallen asleep in the car en route to the factory and slept through the entire tour! D & K enjoyed watching the chocolate being poured into molds, filled with caramel, cooled & packaged. Sadly, most of the products contain peanuts so Drew couldn't have a free sample at the end. But it did help him to realize why he can't eat more candies made in plants where peanut products are because he was able to see the big vats with the filling, pipes that move the filling and molds that are thoroughly washed of peanut pieces.
Did you know? The employees who work at the company are able to eat as much candy as they want!
Tuesday night was ballet for K and in between we celebrated D's birthday!
Wednesday - back to our HOD curriculum, finally!
