Fire Stories

At the end of last week, I had D&K both dictate short stories to me. (We have backed off D's copywork for now and we're doing other "fun" grammar activities for now.) I've been reading a few idea books and one was to have kids dictate stories, especially boys who don't enjoy writing a lot.

I wrote down each of the stories putting 1 sentence on each page. Then they illustrated the pages and book covers. They both did a fantastic job with the stories. K lost interest in illustrating but I know she's still too young for some of these activities, but she begs to do what D is doing!

D's cover..."D's Fire Truck Book" complete with a firetruck...D's 1st & 2nd pages of the story..."One day at the firehouse, the alarm went off." (You can see little lines next to the yellow bell above the fireman's head on the left page.) "Everybody jumped onto the pole and slid down." (Fireman is blue "sliding" down pole.)
D's 3rd & 4th pages of the story..."They put on their gear and air tanks." (The fireman in his gear is wearing the black/yellow stripes as D has seen in videos and in books with the reflective/glow-in-the-dark stripes.) "Then they drove as fast as they could...sirens and everything." (Firetruck on the road - don't you love the purple wheels?!) :o)
D's 5th and 6th pages of the story..."When they arrived at the fire, they went inside and put it out." (I thought it was cute how he made the flames emerging from the door and roof.) "Then they drove back ot the firehouse and waited for the next call." (Don't you love the fireman riding on the extended ladder as it's heading back to the firehouse?!) ;o)
"The End & Good Day"
K's cover...
This is the text of K's story - she made it all up on her own. I just wrote down what she told me:
"One day we were at Grandma's church and the fire alarm went off. We went outside and
Grandma came out of big church with Drew. Grandma called the firemen and they came with their suits on. The firemen used a big hose to put the fire out. There was smoke coming out again and more fire was there. The firemen got another hose from their truck. So then they squirted the fire again and it was out because the hose had so much water."

K's last page...
Her name...She had fun writing her name on the back cover of her little book. She can finally make lowercase e!
