Last Friday we had a FREE field trip to an arboretum with several families in our co-op. The kids enjoyed it - even though K will tell you now she didn't. :o) They learned to identify several trees, observe animals in their natural habitat (ducks, frogs, turtles), walk through an edible/touch garden and chase after the park dog named "Zipp" who chases the geese away from the park.
D&K pretending to be frogs after they saw a few of them...

D holding up his treasures from the hike...Kate was pitching a fit and didn't want me to take her picture...C didn't have a choice. :o)

K touching the "Lamb's Ears" that were in the edible/touch garden...the guide told us pioneers used this plant as toilet paper because it was so soft and grows a lot!

K watching the turtles from the bridge...we kept saying they were playing "Hide'n'Seek" as they would swim near each other and then away from each other and hide under lily pads.

Some of the animals we saw...
Mallard Duck

Turtle (center of picture in between lily pads) - the kids loved watching the turtle swim

Another turtle sunning himself on the edge of the water...

The frog (center of pic) sitting in the mud getting cool...it was a really warm day!

The dog "Zipp" who chases the geese away kept coming near us during the tour - he really liked the kids. C was delighted every time she saw him!

I took this picture of C standing beside the tree simply because she was being still.

Then after the picture above, one of the kids noticed a caterpillar crawling near her leg so they all swarmed in to see it. C remained where she had been oblivious to the caterpillar. :O)

Feeling a bush...

REAL BUCKEYES from the Buckeye Tree!

K (in the middle) and her two friends walking through the crab apple trees at the end of our hike. She got to know them on the last field trip we were on. They are buddies. :o)

We had good time! ;o)
