D completed a few projects from printables for the lapbook (homeschoolshare's site).
His lapbook cover...he began to write the title then crossed it out and just drew a baby in a basket. I wasn't going to push the creativity...this was done at the end of our school time today and he was ready to go play!
The lapbook inside...
He had to color Alaska and Washington state and then he drew a green line with dots (roadhouses) along the way...although he realized the end of the route would be through the water, not land as they took a steam ship. Oh well...
He completed 5 math story problems related to the story and calculated the journey (10 days in sleigh + 5 days in steam ship = 15 total travel days). He also figured out how many roadhouses they may have stopped at during the 10 days in the sleigh (9 roadhouses maybe?).
We also discussed "allusion" in books - how this story is an allusion of the story in the Bible of Baby Moses in a basket. He had to write the definition on a mini file folder in the lapbook...no complaints about writing today! YEAH!
Tomorrow we're doing lots of Christmas activities as we read two books all about Christmas and J will get to join in on the fun as he's off on Friday! :o)
