Last night I received a phone call from a mom involved with the "better" homeschool co-op in our area. I knew a call was coming as they had a mandatory meeting earlier this week to make their plans for the upcoming school year and see who would get "in" from the waiting list.
A phone call I had received a few months ago from the co-op leader told me we were 24th on the waiting list of families waiting to get "in" to the co-op. She told me it would probably be 2 years or so before we'd get "in." I was disappointed to say the least, but knew there was nothing I could do. I did think about starting my own co-op...but in reality I don't have time for it! ;o)
So last night's phone call was what I thought would be another "no, not this year" call so I didn't get my hopes up. But, God surprised me...the mom informed me we were IN!!!!! It was an answer to prayer in the form of encouragement for me to keep schooling the kids at home. I can meet other homeschool moms/families! It was the one thing our school year lacked this year especially after trying out the other co-op in the fall and having it not be what I was wanting.
I found out this co-op has a preschool program for K and a nursery for C, too! I'm encouraged to help each co-op day in the nursery, as a teacher's helper in the classes or eventually teach a co-op class after our initial year. I'm excited!
The co-op classes are small (15 or less kids) and D will have 3 periods each Monday for 10 weeks in the fall and 3 periods for 10 weeks in the spring. For fall he'll be in the dinosaurs, animals and art classes. In the spring he'll be in the Native Americans class, human body class and the 3rd period class with be drama, dance & other activities getting ready for their spring program in May.
I'm thrilled - we loved HOD this year and will continue with that as our curriculum so this co-op is "extra" learning for D but will be a fun time to get to know other homeschoolers in our area. I feel like this will round out our year next year!
