Lightbulbs & Ice Cream

Last Friday D learned about Thomas Edison and was delighted to learn that he thought up inventions in his head (like D does) and had school at home, too! We mixed various shades of yellow paint and they painted the darker shades around a light bulb shape and then changing to the light shades at the edges of the paper.

We finally watched a video of how jelly beans are made (thanks YouTube!)...D had asked a few days ago and I promised him we'd look it up. He's so inquisitive and it's fun to find answers to his questions! We also watched how gum is made and ice cream cones! :o)

Then we decided to make ice cream!!!!

Hand-tossed ice cream! The kids wore gloves to shake the bags of ice (as they were really cold). It was a fun treat though they weren't too fond of the texture as it wasn't like the ice cream from the store...picky, picky, picky! :o)

Hand-Tossed Ice Cream

1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 T sugar (we used Sucanat today and it worked well!)

Place these 3 ingredients in quart size Ziploc & seal.

Ice cubes
2 T. salt

Place these in gallon size Ziploc. Place quart bag in gallon bag of ice and seal.

Shake for 5-10 minutes until milk mixture turns to soft ice cream.
