One of those days...

Yes, it was one of those days today when C doesn't have a good morning nap so school is a bit chaotic and I didn't take any pics.  :o(  Thankfully, we managed to accomplish school it just took us a bit longer with C walking around the school area.  She learned how to move chairs to get to the stairs - I have to get creative to make a gate for that spot soon!!!!

K's Bible stories for Unit 21 are about the birth of Jesus!  She's finally made it into the New Testament! :o)  She enjoyed listening to the song, Starry Sky, that goes along with the birth of Jesus on her Singing Bible CD while she cut out yellow objects from magazines for the first page in her colors book we're working on now.  (It's similar to her counting book she created in the fall.)  Yellow was related to her Bible story in that it's a bright color like the angels (and star) in the sky when Jesus was born.  K also learned letter "Q" today and that it says "Q-Q-Q- quiver" like the shepherds quivered when they first saw the angels in the night sky when Jesus was born.  We read the "Q" page from her devotional book and it was about (not) quarreling!  We had a good discussion since her and Drew quarrel a lot right now!

D began Unit 21 today learning about the first Americans who came to North America - the Indians.  We talked about how they worshiped creation (trees, animals, etc) rather than the Creator.

In math, he's working to add 2-digit and 1-digit numbers. We're going to be slowing down (a lot!) to catch up on his facts - he knows most of them but struggles with the higher numbers.  I'm going to be finding as many games as I can for this week and until he knows his facts solidly!  He loves to play games and that works well for him learn/review the facts.

I've put the Phonics Pathways book on hold for the moment - since we're not emphasizing Spelling this year, there's not a reason to keep pushing him through it right now.  So for Phonics today, D read another chapter in his First Flight book.  It's about a little boy who gets to know the Wright Brothers when they come from Ohio to North Carolina to test their flying machines.  D is loving the story!

This is outside of our "official school work,"  but last night I began reading Little House in the Big Woods to D&K.  D LOVES listening to it and was sad when it was bedtime and we had to stop reading after the first chapter and a half!  He begged for me to read it over lunch today - of course, I couldn't say no!  K listened for a few minutes last night before she fell asleep on my lap.  Today at lunch she listened and enjoys seeing the few pictures scattered throughout the chapters.
