ants, plagues & pudding

Today we finished Unit 4 for both kids...

K was delighted to finger paint with pudding...she was to use it to practice making letter "D" although most of the time it was just circles and then licking her finger. She did manage to get a few uppercase "D's" made and they looked good! :o) D definitely wanted in on the fun, too. I think he was especially excited I let him eat pudding at 9:50 a.m.!
D's Bible story today was about the 10 plagues that God brought upon Egypt when Pharaoh refused to release the Israelites. D knew most of the plagues when we were reading the story and I asked where he learned them from and he said, my CD stories! We were give this great resource several years ago and D listens to it frequently.

The Bible story tied into his science today and one of his activities was to stand like a statue if the plague was non-living or act out the plague if it was living. K joined in, too...

The few pages of his science book that we read were all about insects - since several of the plagues involved these creepy little things. I printed off a few pages from an ant lapbook on homeschool share that I thought he'd enjoy doing. Below he's working on gluing ant predators to their correct names. I'll post the finished lapbook pictures in a few days.

When J asked him about his school day this afternoon, D told him he learned about insects (they have to have 6 legs, so a spider isn't really an insect because it has 8 legs). He also went on to tell J 3 parts of the insect...head, thorax & abdomen. :o) My little thinker - I love it!

He began chapter 5 in his math today and was delighted that he now knows another entire column of math facts (+1). These early addition chapters are very basic, but I'm having him complete most of the pages for extra practice. He read the story problem all by himself today.

We completed lesson 96 in his 100 EL book...we'll finish it on Friday. Hooray! I picked up the next few books he'll read as we begin Phonics Pathways. I love web requests from the library...bless technology when it works because it's a real time saver for me!
