For today, school was definitely not done at home, but I learned how well our curriculum can travel. Because of our incredibly chaotic day we had school in the back of the van this afternoon...
It actually worked well. I started D on math first which he could do on his own - it was a chapter 3 review page so he reviewed the block colors and then place value & counting to 20. He was excited to see I packed a small zippered bag with colored pencils. :o)
I then worked with K on her things...Unit 3/Day 1 where we introduced the letter "C" which says "C-C-Clippety" and we smack our hands on our thighs like the donkey/camel that Abraham rode. She remembered the sound right away. We read her Bible story about Abraham obeying God when God asked him to move and not being afraid because God was with him. The question at the end of the story was "Why wasn't Abraham afraid?" and K replied, "Because of the crocodiles." D and I laughed. ;o)
She had to cut out 3 suitcases to put on her #3 page to add to her counting book and she was able to cut them out almost by herself, glue them on and then count to 3. She's getting better at counting!
We did her rhyme for the first time and she enjoyed it - although D reminded me that we couldn't stand up and jump in the back of the van. :o) The only thing we didn't do was listen to her song on the CD...I left it at home.
D finished his math and then went on to the rest of his subjects...phonics where he read with expression about a beagle saying "boooo" and "zzzzzz". We read Reddy Fox while he worked on his Thinking Skills page (coloring shapes to match the shape at the front of the row...some were really similar with a small difference which was good practice for him not to do quickly. We talked through his Bible verse (Proverbs 20:11) and read his History book where we talked about nations and laws since God spread out the people from the Tower of Babel into other lands. The book defined nation as a group of people living in a large area that speak the SAME LANGUAGE...hmmm, is that true in our nation?!
