It's definitely "fun" school!

Yesterday was so crazy (meeting all morning at church, quick lunch at home, change clothes then off to swap kids with J, home at 4:30 p.m., quick dinner and out the door again for AWANA). I was not going to stress myself out trying to fit school in bits & pieces, so we just took the "day off" from schoolwork. D told daddy later that afternoon that "we didn't do school today because we were too busy". Thankfully, life will slow down just a bit when I'm done teaching in 3 weeks and school will be back to "normal" I hope! :o)

This morning the kids were up EARLY and after I worked out in the living room (AT&T has "Free on Demand" Exercise videos, so workouts aren't always the same!), I found one for the kids to do for their "P.E." today. It was fun for them! D was especially excited that he could do all the moves (as he tried to do some of my workout and got lost :o). He was also delighted I let him use my light weights as the kids were using in the video. K hopped along a little bit, but also munched on her banana.

After P.E., we continued school downstairs. K continued her story of Abraham and colored stripes on an index card to be a "tent" like Abraham's tent. We read the story where God promises Abraham a son (Isaac) and also promises Abraham's descendents will be many like the stars in the sky.

She then "painted" white stars in the dark sky...she loved using the q-tip to paint.
D decided he wanted to join in on the "fun", too...
Completed "tents" and starry skies an hour later...

I put down letter "C" on the floor - K has the hardest time remembering "C's" name. She can tell me what it says, but the name she always says is "S". :o) She had fun running the monster truck around the "C" to make the shape of the letter.
K's "pretending" to be Abraham looking at the stars here... We turned off the lights so the room was dark but the flash from the camera makes it look bright. K's bandanna was supposed to be her "robe" though it was more like a "cape" - Ha! D joined in on the acting, too, though he wasn't about to wear a "robe". ;o)

D's Bible Story was also about Abraham and Isaac, only more in depth and we read from Genesis 22 today. He's learning about finding verses in the Bible...he knows the book and we talked about the first number in the reference today being the "chapter" and the number after the : being the "verse" - his Bible had several pictures of Abraham/Isaac which he enjoyed looking at. He desperately wanted to make an addition to his timeline today, but I'm having him wait another day to do it. It's great to see his excitement about something it.

For his activity this morning, he had to find an animal or doll to use as "baby Isaac" and he chose the dog puppet. He had to follow directional words which is easy for him, but he had fun doing it and it's good practice for him to listen & follow directions completely.

For Math, he completed his Chapter 3 test and is very excited to being Chapter 4 tomorrow. He was complaining about having to write numbers 0-20 since the test was just like the past few days of review pages he completed. I assured him this was the last time. He ended up looking at the calendar dates to complete the numbers...he sometimes forgets which number (1 or 2) goes first in 10, 11, 12...etc. Even though he says "onety-one"...I think it's lack of concentration since this morning C was fussing in my arms and K was constantly asking for help with the computer game she was playing. On days I don't teach in the afternoons, I may move Math to the time C & K nap so he can concentrate better?!

He completed Lesson 89 of the 100 Easy Lessons book and then we flipped through the last few lessons in the book. He said, "I'll be done with it soon!" Then he asked what we'll be doing next and I told him we'll begin reading "real" books. So we went over to the shelf to check which books we have from the booklist in the back of the 100 Easy Lessons book. I hadn't looked to see if we had any of the books yet and I need to request the first few books from the library in the next week so we have them at the beginning of October to read. The book lists 20 books that D will be able to read now or when just a few new words introduced prior to reading each one. Book 18 on the list is "Nate the Great". D's eyes lit up at this!

He then pulled off two books he has loved looking at and having read to him since he was about 2 years old..."This Train" and "This Plane". He proceeded to read each book with just a few helps from me for words like "passengers" and "triplane". I was so proud of him for wanting to read a book on his own. He's done this a few times before, but not lately. Can't wait until he's off reading chapter books on his own, I hope he loves to read as much as I do!
